Description:

In this course, the student will focus on the nursing care of the mental health client in the community and hospital settings. The student will study aspects of the theory and methodology of nursing assessment, goal development, intervention delivery and evaluation of outcomes relevant to the client with mental health issues. Collaborative care with the intraprofessional team will be discussed. Through case studies, lecture and laboratory simulation, the student will develop an understanding of therapeutic communication, care planning, risk assessment, mental health therapies, pharmacotherapy, support systems and community resource access.
