Description:

In this course, students will focus on the role of the interprofessional team member, in helping and supporting individuals with mental health issues within the community. The historical and current perspectives of community mental health care will be explored. Through lecture, discussion, and research the student will explore the relationship between community partners, clients, family, and support networks in ensuring successful community integration and support. Issues related to the continuum of mental health nursing care from hospital to community and housing and employment will be discussed. In addition, students will have the opportunity to identify and explore community mental health care services within the Niagara Region.
