Description:

In this course, students will identify and understand issues within mental health care. Through lecture, research, case studies and discussion, students will explore mental health care from a historical perspective, review current issues locally (using the Niagara Region, Ontario, Canada), and globally that impact clients, families and community. Students will consider select populations as well as government policy and legislation for their influence on mental health care, mental health care reform initiatives, and impacts of reform on clients, families and providers of mental health services. Barriers and healthcare reform will be addressed.
