In this course, students will understand the practical aspects of mechanical testing of metals to determine a material's strength, ductility, and impact resistance. The student will acquire knowledge to understand the mechanical properties of materials. The course also covers the general properties of stainless steels, tool steels, and aluminum, and identifies the different grades and their uses in specific applications. Students will understand the role of polymers/plastics in present-day manufacturing technology. The knowledge gained will enable students to select materials that ensure products and structures work and last as intended, meeting serviceability requirements.
