This course is a continuation of Materials Technology I. Students will understand the practical aspects of mechanical testing of metals as a means to determine a material's strength, ductility, and ability to withstand impact loading. The student will acquire knowledge to understand the mechanical properties of materials. The course also covers the general aspects of stainless steels, tool steels, and aluminum to recognize the different grades and the use of each in a particular application. Students will understand the role of polymers/plastics, in present day manufacturing technology. The knowledge gained will allow students to select materials that allow products and structures to work and last as long as intended, meeting serviceability requirements.
