This practical course will allow students to experience landscape and garden maintenance in our outdoor living lab. Students will conduct equipment and workplace safety training, as well as be introduced to a wide variety of landscape tools. The learning approach is formatted through demonstrations and hands-on experiences, allowing students to develop practical working ethics related to the horticulture industry. Essential skills related to horticulture maintenance will be experienced, including principles/practices required during seasonal shifts, planting preparation, and planting and maintenance of various plants. Safety standards will be stressed for all tasks performed during labs to ensure a safe environment for students and campus visitors. At the end of the course, we hope you will have fostered a love for the landscape through your developing work ethic, teamwork, and an introduction to the details outside the landscape.
