Description:

This course provides an overview of GIS theories and practical applications, covering three key components: 1), Fundamental concepts of geomatics; 2), Introduction to GIS; and 3), GIS applications in physical and human geography. Students will be introduced to Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc.'s (ESRI) ArcGIS 9.x through "hands-on" exercises, focusing on map-making and design principles, GIS data and GIS analytical functionalities, and customized GIS application development to solve real-world problems, including habitat for endangered species, spatial marketing, precision farming, natural disasters and their management, federal electoral districting, and VQA sub appellations.
