This course will introduce you to the concepts and approaches involved in natural channel design. Topics covered in this course include: the use of GIS and Geomatics to describe stream morphology; design principles and parameters; natural channel systems; major stream classification approaches; empirical natural channel design; stream corridor processes, characteristics, and functions; sediment transport fundamentals; and restoration techniques. Your hands-on learning will be enhanced through site visits, a major outdoor project relating to stream restoration and natural channel design, and an emphasis on regional case studies.
