Description:

You will be introduced to soil science as it relates to ecosystem restoration and the Ecological Land Classification (ELC) System for Southern Ontario. You will receive practical, hands-on training in field techniques for determining soil texture, drainage characteristics, and site-specific moisture regimes, to complete the ELC in conjunction with plant community data. You will evaluate lab-based soil chemical and nutrient characteristics to support biogeographical evaluations of the requirements of indicator plant species. You will complete soil volume estimations and review methods and associated costs for managing, moving and stabilizing soils during restoration projects.
