Description:

You will be introduced to soil science as it relates to ecosystem restoration and the Ecological Land Classification System for Southern Ontario. You will be provided practical hands-on training of the field techniques for determining soil texture and soil drainage characteristics at various sites. The fundamentals of soil type description and soil strata characteristics are explored in field settings. You will determine basic soil chemical and nutrient characteristics in the lab. You will examine the relationships between Canadian soil types and regional biogeography through group projects focusing on indicator plant species' requirements.
