Description:

Working with living things presents some specific challenges. In this course, you will address the vegetation management strategies needed to restore a site, including the intricacies of supply and timing. Emphasis will be placed on methods that will provide the large quantities of appropriate plant material necessary for a restoration project, encouraging the inclusion of native material whenever possible. You will have an opportunity to collect, clean, break dormancy and plant native seeds. You should also sharpen your secateurs, so you are ready to practice vegetative propagation and understand its application in restoration practices. There are several challenges specific to managing different plant communities and we will explore those relevant to prairies, wetlands and woodlands.
