The Oxford Dictionary defines ecology as a complex network or interconnected system. In this course, you will explore biological communities of interacting organisms including humans and their physical environments. You will explore the fundamental scientific concepts of ecology and technological implications including nutrients cycling and retention, population dynamics and growth, species abundance and diversity, natural succession and landscape ecology. You will also investigate specialized aspects of ecology as they apply to the social and cultural premises and implications underlying horticulture including invasive and exotic species, habitat creation, genotypes and restoration ecology in the contexts of climate change and sustainable practices.
