The ability to apply statistical techniques to data, cultivate a strong understanding of databases, and develop a knowledge of data handling programming languages has now become an essential skill of a good environmental technician. In this course, students will build on their statistical skills using Excel and recognize its utility for data organization, analysis, and presentation. Students will also practice database organization and making queries using Access. In addition, students will explore data programming languages such as, structured query language (SQL) using PostgreSQL and Python using the Anaconda Platform. Students will use Python-specific software libraries for basic data manipulation including Matplotlib library for data visualization, Pandas library for understanding data structures and data analysis tools and finally, the SciPy library for general statistical analysis of data.
