This course provides a solid understanding of the core concepts and techniques of industrial automatic control. The course begins with hardware basics of programmable logic controllers (PLC); including memory organization, hardware components and various controller options. Students learn basic wiring for inputs and outputs with the I/O modules. The emphasis of the course focuses on programming the PLC. Topics include; fundamentals of logic, basic PLC programming instructions, timers, counters, math and shift register instructions. Real world programming is simulated through virtual industrial plants, where students are able to interact with all facets of the processes. The final element of this course includes information on I/O devices, SCADA, process control and PLC installation, maintenance and safety.
