This is a course on advanced digital systems. Digital concepts presented in class are applied to lab exercises using FPGAs (Field-Programmable Gate Arrays) on an Altera development board and an in-house microchip development board. Using the Altera to implement VHDL arithmetic system, RAM light sequencer system, and interface a Hitachi HD44780 a "Dot Matrix Display" (DMD). Using assembly language and a microchip embedded system, students will apply their skills to add numbers, read data from switches, count on bar LEDs, use lookup tables, use software timers, use hardware timers, interface a 7-segment LED display, interface a DMD, and interface a matrix keypad.
