This course charts the worldwide development of graphic design from its beginnings to the present. Among the items you will examine are writing systems, books, advertisements, posters, corporate branding systems and typography to see how the times affected the work of designers and craftspeople. You will look at the social, cultural, artistic, political, economic and philosophical meanings that this work expresses about its creators and the times in which it was created and what it means to designers today.
