You will be introduced to the role of estimating in the construction industry and review the various types of estimates used. You will make use of basic mensuration and mathematical formulae to solve problems that apply to construction practices. These formulae will form the foundation of the remainder of the course. You will develop the quantities of cut and fill for a building lot as well as applying both mathematical formulae and electronic measuring to determine the quantities of cut and fill for parking lots and earth fill dams. You will calculate the quantities of excavation through earth and multi-strata using traditional 'pencil & paper' as well as the use of Microsoft Excel.
