This course explores the experiences of persons living with psychiatric mental health disorders and examines related nursing therapeutics. In this course, you will study the nurse's role in caring for people who require support with mental health challenges. In the lab setting, you will develop competence through simulation with a variety of nursing interventions, including, but not limited to, therapeutic communication, safety, psychiatric disorders, psycho-pharmacological treatments, suicide assessment and prevention. You will learn how to collaborate with clients to support them with their mental health plans. You will cultivate your ability to develop therapeutic nurse-client relationships, framed within the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) values of client well-being, client choice, privacy and confidentiality, respect for life, maintaining commitments, truthfulness, and fairness.
