In this course, the learner will examine the role of the nurse when caring for persons requiring support with activities of daily living due to comorbidities, limited mobility, and/or cognitive impairment. The learner will begin to develop the critical-thinking skills needed to plan and implement holistic nursing care including applying nursing theory to assess clients, develop and implement individualized care plans, and evaluate client outcomes. In the lab setting, the learner will develop competence with a variety of nursing interventions including, but not limited to, personal care, infection prevention and control, safe transfers, and body mechanics. The learner will practice collaboration with clients to support them with their activities of daily living and develop basic assessment skills related to skin assessment, movement, and vital signs.
