Description:

The protection of the health of honey bees is under the jurisdiction of the province of Ontario and governed by the Ontario Bees Act which regulates honey bees and beekeeping in Ontario. Students will explore in detail the legal requirements of this Act and the associated regulations as they apply to a commercial beekeeping operation in Ontario. The Food Safety and Quality Act will also be reviewed as it applies to the safe production of honey and other byproducts. Regulations for import permits for packaged bees will also be covered and examined fully in this course. Reporting procedures for suspected pesticide damage to Health Canada (PMRA) discussed and other related regulatory aspects associated with commercial beekeeping will be addressed including TDG and WHMIS.
