Description:

Typical commercial beekeeping operations require a multitude of skills in both the care and maintenance of the hives but in the upkeep and operation of the Apiary. In addition, operators will also be directly involved in the effective packaging, loading and transportation of the mobile hives that are sent out on the various trips to provide their important pollination services. Various techniques instrumental to the construction and maintenance of an Apiary will be introduced to the participants of this course. Students will be directly involved in hands-on exercises that will be fundamental to effective maintenance of a beeyard environment including the construction of frames, loading pallets, exclusion structures and other related elements. Students will also be able to develop skills in the proper use of a tow motor and other loading equipment used in the safe loading and unloading of hives.
