Description:

Throughout this course, students will engage in a focused analysis of the diseases, pests and environmental factors that affect honey bee health in Canada and North America and will review research findings linking these factors to possible colony collapse. Students will employ monitoring methods used in a typical apiary environment and will compare and select among treatment and prevention options that are applicable to specific pests and diseases under various seasonal and geographic conditions. To assess and monitor bee colony health over time, students will maintain accurate and informative records using tools and templates frequently deployed in commercial bee keeping operations.
