Description:

Microbiology is a fundamental subject area for many disciplines, especially in the food and beverage, horticulture and environmental sectors, where microorganisms can have both positive and negative impacts on human health and product quality. This course aims to introduce basic aspects of microbiology, including basic taxonomy, morphology and physiology of microorganisms, and knowledge of how humans interact with microorganisms, with either beneficial and negative impact. Students will learn basic laboratory techniques for the microbiology lab, including microscopy, swabbing, plating, enumeration, staining, selection of media, and general aseptic technique.
