You will study selected aspects of history and the principles of microbiology, specifically those related to the oral cavity. Discussion will include an introduction to immunology and a comparison of the host in health and disease. Modes of disease transmission for common oral bacterial, viral, and fungal microorganisms will be identified, along with emerging diseases important to the healthcare professional. Currently accepted infection control procedures will be examined and translated into the specific infection control practices and protocols employed within the Niagara College Dental Clinic.
