This course builds on concepts of business and international communications and focuses on the communications strategies necessary for effective management of the communication systems (internal and external) within a hospitality enterprise. The course presents organizational communication (internal) and external communications models, examines managerial communications styles, and strategies to obtain objectives, and highlights print and electronic communication tools. Strategies and tactics for disseminating internal policies and communicating external policy needs are also examined. Through case study analyses, students examine effective and ineffective communications strategies and critically review and analyze issues raised. The course emphasizes communications systems that are client-focused (internal and external) and examines communications processes, management communication styles and organizational approaches to successfully managing communications.
