This course is a study of modern automotive drive train systems. Since the late 1970's automobile manufacturers have been refining vehicle drive train systems to reduce emissions, improve fuel economy and extend vehicle life. Students will study a variety of transmissions dating from the late 1970's to the present to gain an understanding of how technology and materials have affected the transfer of power from the engine/motor to the wheels. Studies will take students through lock-up torque converters, four and all wheel drive, overdrive transmissions, improved materials and lubricants, shift strategies and logic, diagnostics and servicing.
