This course introduces students to microbiology with an emphasis on human health science. Microorganisms of medical importance, such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoans, will be investigated. Students will learn about the structure and function of microorganisms; the tools used to study, identify, and control them; the epidemiology of diseases caused by microorganisms; and the effects on specific human body systems. There is also discussion about sexually transmitted diseases, their impact on various age groups, environmental microbes related to human health, and emerging infectious diseases.
