This course introduces the learner to the study of human anatomy and physiology, beginning at the cellular and sub-cellular levels, and is the first of two courses exploring the overall structure and function of the human body. An integrated and systemic approach will be taken to provide the learner with the background concepts to understand future courses in pathophysiology. Concepts of cellular membrane structure and function, organelles, cellular respiration and metabolism, cell division (mitosis and meiosis), cancer, DNA biology and technology, gene expression, Mendelian genetics and human organization will be investigated.
