This course integrates the medical language skills, abbreviations, and pharmacology related to specific body systems to produce accurate medical documents for a variety of medical settings. Student will learn to comprehend, proofread, edit, and transcribe a variety of medical documents. Student will acquire a working knowledge of the specialized rules to be used in medical transcription and become familiar with major reference sources to support the integrity and quality control of medical documents. Topics include voice-recognition software, general and specialty-specific formatting guidelines when transcribing documents. Importance of proper use of English grammar, spelling and punctuation skills, and keyboard techniques will be reinforced throughout the course.
