Frequently Asked Questions
The ExperieNCe Award recognizes employees who have been employed with Niagara College for at least ten years, and thereafter in five-year increments (15 years, 20 years, etc.)
All employees of all classifications are automatically eligible to receive the award when they reach a milestone (starting at 10 years). This includes full-time, part-time, short-term and contract employees.
An employee’s ‘years of experience’ for this award is determined by the total number of years during which they have been employed with the College. If an employee was employed with the College in any capacity (full-time, part-time, short-term or contract) during a calendar year then that year counts towards the total years of experience. Please see situational examples below.
- Employee ‘A’ began working part-time at the College in 2013. After four years in this position, they transitioned into a full-time role and remain in this position to date. This employee has been employed at the College within each calendar year from 2013 – 2023, so this year (in 2023) they will receive their 10-year ExperieNCe Award.
- Employee ‘B’ began working part-time at the College in 2006 and continues to work part-time to date. They have never worked full-time but they have been employed at the College within each calendar year from 2006 – 2023 and have 17 total years of experience. Because they have not been recognized before, in 2023, they will be recognized for their most recent milestone reached – 15 years of experience – and receive a 15-year ExperieNCe Award.
- Employee ‘C’ began working at the College in 2011. They worked in a full-time position from 2011 – 2013, then left the College to pursue another opportunity. They returned to the College in 2017 for a contract position. In 2018, they transitioned into a part-time position and remain in this position to date. This employee was employed with the College in the following years: 2011 – 2013, 2017 – 2023, which is a total of 10 years. This year, they will receive their 10-year ExperieNCe Award.
