The right training for staff can improve a business’s performance, profit, and staff morale.

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant allows employers to determine who to train and what training is appropriate for their employees and provides funding to help train these workers.

Please connect with one of our Employment Consultants to help determine eligibility and for assistance with completing an application form.

How does the Canada-Ontario Job Grant work?

If you are an employer with specific workforce skill needs that can be learned or developed through an existing or customized training program, the Canada-Ontario Job Grant can help. The grant can provide funding to train individuals identified by an employer – this can include current employees or new hires.

Who pays for the training?

Support for an individual’s training costs under the Canada-Ontario Job Grant is shared between the government and the employer.

The government can provide up to 5/6 of the eligible training costs up to a maximum of $10,000 per individual.

Ontario’s employers with 100 or more employees can receive government support to cover up to 1/2 of eligible training costs per person. Small employers (i.e. those with fewer than 100 employees) can receive funding for up to 5/6 of eligible training costs per person.

Eligible training costs include:

  • Tuition or other training provider fees
  • Textbooks, software and other required materials
  • Mandatory student fees
  • Examination fees

Who is eligible?

Individual employers and organizations acting on behalf of employers (i.e. industry associations, training coordinators, employer consortia, union halls) in the private and not-for-profit sectors are eligible to apply for the Canada-Ontario Job Grant.

Employers and individuals participating in training are required to meet additional eligibility criteria. Please contact an Employment Advisor for further information.
