Research Ethics Board Mandate
The REB has a mandate to review the ethical acceptability of research conducted at Niagara College or under its auspices, which includes having the authority to approve, reject, terminate and suggest modifications to any proposed or ongoing research involving human participants. Research involving human participants must be reviewed and approved by the REB prior to the commencement of the research study. The Board’s decisions are based on the ethical acceptability of the research according to the assessment of the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans (2018) or TCPS 2.
REB Review Meetings and Deadline Dates
Niagara College’s REB will assess the level of risk to participants of the proposed research upon receipt of all applications.
If the proposed research is determined to pose minimal risk to participants it will receive a delegated review within 10 working days of submission.
If the proposed research poses greater than minimal risk to participants, or if the REB Chair determines that a delegated review is not appropriate, the application will receive a full review. The application will be presented for review at the next REB meeting.
Schedule of Application Submission and Review Dates
Applications submitted to the REB are reviewed on an on-going basis. If a full review is required, it will take place during the next scheduled REB meeting. Please note, there may be delays in processing applications during the summer.
