Painting on Silk - Decorative Art
An introduction to the basics of painting on silk - including simple designs, painting techniques and steaming. Instructor-artist Toye Chanpen Hayes will show you how to create a painted silk work of art, including planning the initial design, tracing the design onto silk, painting the design, and steaming the silk to make the design permanent. Project options include unique silk greeting cards, a designer-quality silk handbag/purse, or a beautiful framed silk picture to accent your home. Cost of specialty materials is extra, approximately $30, and will be available in class directly from the instructor. These specialty items include 1 metre of 100% Habotai silk, silk paints/dyes, gutta and outliner, effect salts, metal tips and silk pins. Students will receive a list of additional simple materials to bring to class with them (pencil, drawing paper, apron, scissors, paint brushes, etc.).
