Academic Anxiety Scale (AAS): FAQs

First year students in Paramedic, Personal Support Worker, Practical Nursing, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs at Niagara College will receive email invitations at three points in time to participate in the Academic Anxiety Scale (AAS) survey. This 1-minute survey will help identify the root causes of anxiety including resilience, social discomfort, overwhelm and hopelessness. Based on the results students will be offered personalized support plans to help address anxiety early on in their program. This initiative is designed to support success in your studies and future career as a healthcare professional.

Please see the “Eligibility to Participate” section below. The survey is conducted by the ConfideNCe Program within the Health Sciences division in collaboration with Niagara College’s Planning and Institutional Research (PaIR) department on behalf of Niagara College.

If you have questions about the ConfideNCe Survey, please email [email protected].

Important Note

While Academic Anxieties are indeed barriers to optimal thriving in schools and other educational settings, there is no clinical identification for Academic Anxiety or Test Anxiety.

If your feelings of worry are constant, severe, interfere with your daily functioning, and/or have many different academic and non-academic causes, please seek help from a licensed counseling professional.

Purpose of the Survey

Your input is important. The Academic Anxiety Scale (administered at the beginning, middle, and end of your first year in the program) is a key component of the ConfideNCe program. This survey will help identify and address the root causes of anxiety including:

  • resilience,
  • social discomfort,
  • overwhelm, and
  • hopelessness.

By identifying these key root causes of anxiety early, we can provide targeted supports to improve student well-being and academic success.

For Fall 2024 Students, the survey is scheduled from Dec 20, 2024 until Jan 17, 2025.

For Winter 2025 Students, the survey is scheduled from Jan 3, 2025 until Jan 17, 2025.
