Highlights

  • Credit and non-credit courses, some of which are embedded in Indigenous cultural, academic, and applied learning and on-the-land teaching, to create a path towards postsecondary education for Indigenous Students.

  • Upon successful completion of all courses, students will achieve a Statement of Completion from Niagara College.

  • Program is funded by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Tuition, textbooks, and course resources are free for eligible students.

  • Wellness support is available for MPOWER students through NC's Indigenous Counsellor and cultural support through NC's Indigenous Education Team.

Eligibility
  • Applicants self-identify as Indigenous.
  • Applicants need to be at least 18 years of age with their OSSD (or equivalent) OR be at least 19 years of age if they do not have an OSSD or equivalent.
  • Applicants have a strong desire to commit to their future in education.

Most courses will be in person, on campus and land based.

Can I get OSAP?

Although this program is not OSAP eligible, you may be able to apply to other funding sources within your Community – Your Band, Friendship Centres, other Indigenous organizations. The MPOWER program is funded by Niagara College. Tuition, textbooks, and course resources are free for eligible students.

What kind of hours will I be expected to attend classes?

A schedule will be explained during an Information Session.

Indigenous Education

The mission of Indigenous Education at Niagara College is to provide academic and cultural support, in a culturally sensitive manner, and encourage Indigenous student success.

We understand that it can be a difficult transition for you as an Indigenous student when moving to another community. Our Indigenous Education staff provide assistance to enhance your academic, personal, social and spiritual life while attending Niagara College. They work closely with Indigenous communities and organizations to enhance success for you, our current students, and prospective students.
