Miguel Martin was named OCAA Rookie of the Year and a West Division First-Team All-Star, alongside teammates Juan Plata and Matthew Wnukowski.<\/li>\n<li>The Knights women&#8217;s soccer team advanced to the OCAA quarter-finals with a 1-0 overtime victory over Durham, thanks to a game-winning goal from Hannah Truant, before falling 6-1 to St. Clair. November 3, pancake lovers can start their morning off with a sweet stack at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/gilliansplace.com\/\">Gillian&#8217;s Place<\/a> Wrapped in Courage Pancake Breakfast.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, Niagara College is supporting the event, which runs from 7 to 9 a.m. at Market Square in downtown St. Catharines.<\/p>\n<p>A team of employees, students and volunteers from Community Relations and Events, Benchmark and the School of Culinary Arts will cook up and serve breakfast to help Gillian&#8217;s Place kick off the Wrapped in Courage Campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is held annually in Ontario during Woman Abuse Prevention Month (November) and encourages community members to wear a purple scarf to show their support for survivors of gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<p>For a cost of $10 per person, guests receive pancakes, sausage, coffee\/tea or juice, as well as a Gillian&#8217;s Place purple scarf or pet bandana. The bandana is a new option this year to mark the milestone of Gillian&#8217;s Place soon becoming a pet-friendly shelter for the women, children and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals it serves.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are not required to attend the Nov. 3 event. The week honours the ongoing significance of treaties in shaping the places where we live, work, and learn.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Learning Resources<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students and employees are encouraged to mark Treaties Recognition Week by exploring educational materials available through NC&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/nclibraries.niagaracollege.ca\/indigenoused\/treaties\">Indigenous Education Sources page<\/a>, accessible through the Libraries and Learning Centres.<\/p>\n<p>The Libraries and Learning Centres at both campuses will feature displays of curated print books, eBooks, and other resources related to treaties, Indigenous histories, and treaty relationships.<\/p>\n<p>Additional resources to explore include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/native-land.ca\/\">Native Land Digital &#8211; Territory Acknowledgement and Treaty Map<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whose.land\/\">Whose Land<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfb.ca\/film\/trick_or_treaty\/\">Trick or Treaty?<\/a> &#8212; a documentary exploring treaty relationships in Canada.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>International Inuit Day: November 7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>International Inuit Day is observed annually on Nov. 7. Declared by the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) in 2006, the day celebrates Inuit identity, culture, resilience, and contributions around the world.<\/p>\n<p>It is an opportunity to learn about Inuit histories, languages, traditions, and contemporary experiences, while recognizing the diversity of Inuit communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indigenous Veterans Day: November 8<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Indigenous Veterans Day honours the military service and sacrifices of First Nations, Inuit, and M\u00e9tis Peoples who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces and other military contexts.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about Indigenous Veterans&#8217; experiences, watch a recording of a past<a href=\"https:\/\/niagaracollege.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/nde\/fulldisplay?context=L&amp;vid=01OCLS_NCC:NIAGARA_NDE&amp;search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&amp;lang=en&amp;docid=alma991000311753108151\"> NC Library event<\/a> held in honour of Indigenous Veterans Day.<\/p>\n<p>The event featured Retired Command Sergeant Major Ronald Cook Jr., a Seneca Nation Snipe Clan citizen from Cattaraugus, and Tom Dockstader, a Buffalo-born Oneida Bear Clan citizen who served in the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1971. Through their experiences and perspectives, they shared insights into Indigenous military service and the importance of remembering and honouring Indigenous Veterans.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Louis Riel Day: November 16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NC recognizes Louis Riel Day on Nov. 16, commemorating the life and legacy of the M\u00e9tis leader who played a pivotal role in Canadian history. On Nov. 16, Niagara College will fly the M\u00e9tis flag in his honour.<\/p>\n<p>Often referred to as the &#8220;Father of Manitoba,&#8221; Louis Riel was a prominent M\u00e9tis political leader who advocated for M\u00e9tis rights, land, and self-determination. look at applied learning in action during its upcoming Fall Open House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking place on Saturday, November 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.at both the Welland Campus and Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the event provides a unique opportunity to experience NC&#8217;s student-focused, trailblazing and welcoming campus community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NC's Fall Open House invites visitors to step right into the action on campus, explore specialized labs, meet expert faculty and take part in interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities. From state-of-the-art facilities to innovative learning environments, visitors will get a firsthand look at the experiential learning opportunities that set \"NC Life\" apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\"Whether you've decided to begin your college journey to pursue your dream career, or are just starting to explore your options, we are thrilled to welcome you to our Fall Open House,\" said Niagara College President Sean Kennedy. \"There is no better way to experience the NC difference than by walking our vibrant campuses and connecting directly with the faculty and students who bring our programs to life.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\r\n\t\r\n\t<figure class=\"image d tb none\" >\r\n\r\n\t\t\r\n    \r\n      \r\n    \r\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/NC-Fall-Open-House-.2.webp\" alt=\"\" \/>\r\n\r\n\t\t\r\n\t\t\t<figcaption>\r\n\t\t\tCatch live drone demonstrations, see robotics and engineering technology in action, and explore interactive demonstrations in computer and electrical engineering at NC's Welland Campus Open House.\t\t<\/figcaption>\r\n\t\r\n\t<\/figure>\r\n\r\n\t\r\n  \n\n\n<p><strong>Kickoff sessions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help visitors maximize their time and navigate the day, Kickoff Sessions will run every 15 minutes starting at 9:45 a.m. These brief, five-to-10 minute orientations feature a dynamic welcome video to help guests build a personalized roadmap for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From there, visitors can tailor their journey through school-specific information sessions, connect with academic and student service representatives and take campus tours featuring unique interactive demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Services Fair<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond exploring academic programs, visitors can connect with NC&#8217;s student services teams to learn about the resources and supports available throughout their college journey. From financial aid and accessibility services to student life and campus resources, the fair offers an opportunity to ask questions, explore available supports and discover how NC helps students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application Hubs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Application Hubs will offer one-on-one support with the NC application process. Visitors can connect with staff to ask questions, receive guidance and get assistance with submitting applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Early Exploration (for Grades 9-11)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 12:30 p.m. at both campuses, students in Grade 11 or younger can get a head start on their postsecondary planning and learn what to expect in Grade 12 at Early Exploration sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Prizes and registration and prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walk-ins are always welcome but pre-registration is strongly encouraged via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/openhouse\/\">NC Open House website<\/a>. Pre-registered guests can bypass registration lines and will be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 tuition credit once their ticket is scanned at Open House. Those who register by Friday, November 6 at 11:59 p.m. and check in at Open House will also be entered for a chance to win one of ten $100 gift cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Daniel J. From financial aid and accessibility services to student life and campus resources, the fair offers an opportunity to ask questions, explore available supports and discover how NC helps students succeed both inside and outside the classroom.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application Hubs<br \/>\n<\/strong>Application Hubs will offer one-on-one support with the NC application process. Visitors can connect with staff to ask questions, receive guidance and get assistance with submitting applications.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Early Exploration (for Grades 9-11)<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">At 12:30 p.m. at both campuses, students in Grade 11 or younger can get a head start on their postsecondary planning and learn what to expect in Grade 12 at Early Exploration sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Prizes and registration and prizes<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">Walk-ins are always welcome but pre-registration is strongly encouraged via the <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1em;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/openhouse\/\">NC Open House website<\/a><span style=\"font-size: 1em;\">. Pre-registered guests can bypass registration lines and will be entered for a chance to win a $5,000 tuition credit once their ticket is scanned at Open House. Those who register by Friday, November 6 at 11:59 p.m. and check in at Open House will also be entered for a chance to win one of ten $100 gift cards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel J.
