Team NC,<\/p>\n

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our LauNCh events last week, as we came together ahead of the Fall Term. I could feel the shared excitement, positive energy, and pride for our NC community as you reconnected with colleagues after what I hope was a memorable summer.<\/p>\n

As we conclude the first week of the Fall term, our domestic enrolment continues to be strong as we welcome thousands of NC Knights to campus.\u00a0 I am grateful for all our employees and students who enthusiastically support our many recruitment activities, and for the work of our Marketing and Student Recruitment teams to showcase NC Life.<\/p>\n

I am pleased to share that the School of Community Services has relocated to the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, an exciting move that brings new energy and opportunity to the campus, and our new Health Education Building<\/a> in Welland is taking shape, marking an important step in NC’s continued growth and renewal.<\/p>\n

I know that the past two years have been challenging for our sector and for our college community. What has inspired me most throughout this period is our ability to remain rooted in our commitment to delivering a world-class experience for our students. I am pleased to have met with many departments and schools in recent weeks, and I look forward to meeting with more of you this term. I’m grateful for the ideas, questions and suggestions that I’ve heard so far, and look forward to continued discussions moving forward.<\/p>\n

Yesterday the provincial government announced the outcome of a very competitive process in which all colleges and universities submitted proposals for additional funding in fields identified for priority growth, including health, STEM and trades. Although we don’t yet know all the details, I am pleased to report that initial indications are that NC’s strong proposal was well received and will result in additional government funding in the coming years to support enrolment growth in a number of program areas aligned with the government’s priorities.<\/p>\n

Over the next year we will embark on the process of developing a new Strategic Plan, a time to think about how we leverage our strengths and adapt and grow within a changed post-secondary landscape. Enrolment, fundraising and entrepreneurial revenue growth will continue to be critical to our future sustainability and success. It is my hope that everyone will contribute their ideas as we develop the outline for the next exciting chapter of the remarkable NC story.<\/p>\n

As Vice President, Students, Dr. Chris McGrath recently\u00a0shared<\/a>, we truly appreciate your efforts to give our students a\u00a0positive and encouraging start to their NC Life during this first week, and I know that our welcoming ways will shine throughout the fall term.\u00a0I am so proud of our caring and collaborative organizational culture, and thank each of you for your dedication to serving our students, employers and communities.<\/p>\n

kicking off the 2026-2027 varsity season with a new fundraising initiative supporting Knights student-athletes.<\/p>\n<p>As part of NC’s <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.niagaracollege.ca\/together-campaign\/\">Together campaign<\/a>, <strong><em>The Assist: You Pass, They Score<\/em><\/strong> is raising funds to support scholarships for student-athletes across all varsity sports at the College, including basketball, soccer, volleyball, curling and golf.<\/p>\n<p>“Every year, we welcome about 120 student-athletes to our academic and varsity programs,” said Michele O’Keefe, NC’s Senior Director, Athletics and Student Engagement. “Athletic scholarships help attract and retain our Knights who contribute to a culture of excellence within our collegiate programs and who are a big part of ‘NC Life’ on campus.”<\/p>\n<p>Student-athletes must balance their studies with their athletic commitments, demonstrating the discipline and determination needed to excel in both pursuits. All event proceeds will support student-athlete scholarships.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mtbellies.com\/\">MT Bellies<\/a> has partnered with the College and will serve as a hub for the event. The official cheering stand for Knights on Niagara Street will be located directly in front of the restaurant (871 Niagara St., Welland). Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake starting Friday, September 11.<\/p>\n<p>The NC Bookstore is taking its shelves on the road with a pop-up shop outside the Rankin Family Student Commons (cafeteria).<\/p>\n<p>Designed to bring an in-person shopping experience to students at the DJP campus, the pop-up shop offers a hands-on way to browse and buy official NC merch, without travelling to the Welland Campus, where the NC Bookstore is located.<\/p>\n<p>Pop-ups will be held Sept. 11, 16 and 18 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring a selection of emblematic NC apparel , drink-ware and gift-ware. It highlights the importance of clear, voluntary and ongoing consent in all interactions, while encouraging open conversations, education and community action to help build safer, more respectful environments.<\/p>\n<p>NC’s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/edi\/team\/\">Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team<\/a> is encouraging students and employees to participate in Consent Awareness Week through a series of activities and events focused on dialogue, education and action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upcoming events and learning opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncengage.ca\/EDI\/rsvp_boot?id=382458\"><strong>Community Connections<\/strong><\/a><em><br \/>\n<strong>Sept. 15 | 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Applied Health Foyer, Welland Campus<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Community organizations from across the Niagara Region will be on campus to raise awareness, engage in conversation and connect the NC community with local support services.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be set up as an information fair, allowing participants to drop in, learn about resources and make connections with community organizations. <strong>Registration is not required.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncengage.ca\/EDI\/rsvp_boot?id=382459\"><strong>Consent Awareness Week Table<\/strong><\/a><em><br \/>\n<strong>Sept. 17 | 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. | Cafeteria entrance, Daniel J. Patterson Campus<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Stop by the Consent Awareness Week Table to learn more about on-campus and community-based resources and take part in activities designed to enhance your understanding of consent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncengage.ca\/EDI\/rsvp_boot?id=382441\"><strong>Take Back the Night<\/strong><\/a><em><br \/>\n<strong>Sept. 17 | 6:30 to 9 p.m. | Market Square, downtown St. Catharines<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Join NC and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagarasexualassaultcentre.com\/\">Niagara Sexual Assault Centre<\/a> for Take Back the Night, an annual event raising awareness about sexual and gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature speakers and live music followed by a candlelight march through downtown St. Catharines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Residence visits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NC’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion team will also visit student residences during Consent Awareness Week:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sept. 14:<\/strong> Welland residence<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sept. 16:<\/strong> Niagara-on-the-Lake residence<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The team will set up information tables and be available to speak with students about resources and supports available at NC and in the community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NC Libraires and Learning Centres display<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the week of Sept. 14, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nclibraries.niagaracollege.ca\/library\">NC Libraries and Learning Centres<\/a> at both campuses will feature displays with curated print books and eBooks and other resources connected to this important day.<\/p>\n<p>Consent Awareness Week is an opportunity for everyone in the NC community to learn, ask questions and take action to help create a culture where consent, respect and healthy relationships are understood and valued.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about sexual and gender-based violence, your rights at the College, and available support services, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/consentiskey\/\">Consent is Key website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Niagara College will join postsecondary institutions across Canada in recognizing Consent Awareness Week, Sept. 14 to 18.
