NC Craft is pouring its support into affordable housing, welcoming community members to taste, explore and make a difference through Habitat for Humanity Niagara’s new Build and Brew Passport.<\/p>\n

The initiative, which launched September 14 and runs through December 23, supports building affordable housing and strengthening communities throughout Niagara.<\/p>\n

“NC Craft is proud to be part of the Build and Brew Passport in support of Habitat for Humanity, giving people a fun reason to discover our products and experience the Craft Beverage Center at Niagara College,” said Amanda Baldinelli, Hospitality Manager, for the NC Learning Enterprises. “It’s a great opportunity to welcome new and returning guests, share the products our students and team help bring to life, and connect with the community while supporting an organization that is helping build stronger communities.”<\/p>\n

“Habitat for Humanity Niagara is th\"\"rilled to have NC Craft as a partner in the Build & Brew Passport program. Their enthusiasm for supporting local businesses and giving back to the community has helped make this initiative even stronger,” said Madison Meloche, Community Fundraising Coordinator, Habitat for Humanity Niagara. “As a NC graduate myself, it is especially meaningful to see my alma mater supporting an initiative that brings people together while helping raise critical funds for current and future Habitat homeowners across Niagara.”<\/p>\n

Passport holders can explore Niagara’s craft beverage scene while unlocking exclusive passport perks. As they visit participating breweries throughout Niagara, they check in, collect stamps, and work toward prizes and recognition. One stamp earns one prize entry for a Master Builder Stamp Collector’s Prize, while those who visit all participating breweries are entered into the Build and Brew Completion Prize – featuring a VIP Tasting card ($200 value), and a NC Craft Brewery gift basket).<\/p>\n

In addition to NC Craft, participating venues include The Exchange Brewery, Shiny Apple Cider, Niagara Oast House Brewers, Ironwood Cider House, Bench Brewing, Coldbreak Brewing, Decew Falls Brewing, and Newark Brewing.<\/p>\n

Government of Grenada is supporting the establishment of four Centres of Excellence (CoEs) designed to strengthen technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in the Caribbean country.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration, which also includes Nova Scotia Community College and Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture, supports the implementation of the Youth Transformational Skills Programme (YTSP) — a flagship initiative aimed at modernizing TVET, reducing unemployment among youth aged 14 and over, and driving inclusive economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>The CoEs will focus on sectors critical Grenada’s economic development, including Agriculture, Furniture Making, Marine & Fisheries, and Tourism & Hospitality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Centre of Excellence set to launch in January 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From July 13 to 17, Project Implementation Consultancy Team (PICT) representatives delivered Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) and Instructor Onboarding workshops as part of the YTSP in Grenada. The sessions helped strengthen institutional readiness and prepare partners for the launch of the Agriculture Centre of Excellence in January 2027, the first of the CoEs to be established.<\/p>\n<p>Bringing extensive experience in TVET development across the Caribbean, the PICT team included Oleksandra Gora, NC’s Global Education Projects, Project Manager; Joyce Bott, NC’s Curriculum Design Expert; Paul Manning, Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture, Integrated Pest Management Expert; and Cush Lewis, Monitoring & Evaluation Expert.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops brought together representatives from Government of Grenada agencies, Grenada’s Skills Development Unit (SDU) within the Ministry of Education, and Agriculture instructors.<\/p>\n<p>The sessions focused on strengthening collaboration and building institutional capacity. The PICT provided expertise in areas including curriculum development, instructor training, operational planning, stakeholder engagement, procurement strategies and monitoring and evaluation. simulation suits firsthand. <em>The Assist: You Pass, They Score<\/em>, a new initiative under NC’s Together campaign that raises funds for student-athlete scholarships.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on her longstanding role at NC, O’Keefe spoke about the connections between athletics and the broader student experience.<\/p>\n<p>“There are so many lessons to be learned along a student’s journey,” said O’Keefe. “There’s so many crossover values and experiences that an athlete would have compared to just a regular student. history to virtual reality: NC powers Willowbank’s new 3D experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A historic Queenston estate has had a 3D makeover, thanks to faculty and students from NC’s School of Media Studies.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, September 19, Willowbank School of Restoration Arts will unveil a custom virtual reality recreation – designed and built by NC Game Development students – at its twentieth anniversary open house event.<\/p>\n<p>The project has been about a year in the making. NC School of Media faculty Conor MacNeil – who is also a member of Willowbank’s Board of Directors. – led student volunteers from the College’s Game Development programs in the project. They worked with Willowbank students to reimagine the historic estate on a digital platform. Drawing on photographs, floor plans, archival research and conversations with community members, they created an experience that offers an immersive glimpse into Willowbank’s past.<\/p>\n<p>“It’s the future meeting the past. Heritage students\u00a0 and gaming students work in very different spaces, but this project shows the incredible applications virtual reality has for cultural preservation,” aid MacNeil. “When people put the headset on, they aren’t just looking at a 3D model, they’re stepping into an authentic, photorealistic environment that honours Willowbank’s history while showcasing our students’ technical skills at an industry level.”<\/p>\n<p>Over the past year, third-year Game Development student Ronnie Warwick worked alongside MacNeil and about a dozen students across NC’s Game Development programs, to transform the historic mansion into an interactive digital environment. Warwick, who was born and raised in St. Catharines, was interested in getting involved with the project to gain hands-experience.<\/p>\n<p>“I was really excited to get some industry experience – to get a sense of what it’s like to work on a game, with a team, with a client, and get a chance to show off my skills,” said Warwick.<\/p>\n<p>Using Unreal Engine – industry-leading software that expands beyond the standard classroom curriculum – the team used 3D spatial scanning, drone capture, high-to-low poly baking, and archival research from the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Warwick handled much of the initial reference work and developed the 3D model from the original floor plans before moving to programming the VR mechanics, headset setup, and audio integration in Unreal.<\/p>\n<p>He \u00a0valued the experience he gained contributing to the architecture of the project, from details such as trims and doors to the entire staircase design which took significant effort.<\/p>\n<p>“Conor made this feel like an industry production. We had a client, we had a goal, we had milestones to achieve, we had roles and responsibilities,” said Warwick. “Working on real-world goals with real-world clients gave me a sense of accomplishment and a drive to work and prove what our team could do.”<\/p>\n<p>With the recent loss of other historic estates such as the Glencairn House, Warwick reflected on the importance of preserving history in 3D and how he could use his skills to do just that.<\/p>\n<p>“One of the coolest things about this project is we’re preserving history in 3D,” he said. “The idea of preserving Willowbank and many other historic houses in 3De has led to a lot of new ideas and plans for the future… our 200-year old pieces of history need to be preserved and our team is working to preserve them.”<\/p>\n<p>In addition to walking through intricately detailed rooms, users can discover virtual period artifacts and view digitized letters dating back to the 1860s that were once hidden within the walls of the estate.<\/p>\n<p>The long-term vision for the project is a digital ‘time machine’ for users to toggle between the estate’s distinct architectural eras, from the Hamilton family in the mid-1800s, to the Bright family in expansions of the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>The open house showcase marks the public debut of phase one, bringing the estate to life in immersive 3D.<\/p>\n<p>The VR experience will be a key feature of Willowbank’s 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary open house on Saturday, September 20. MacNeil, Warwick and other NC student creators will be on site to guide visitors through the headset walkthrough. the demo will be running throughout the afternoon of the open house inside the
