Held twice daily at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., each ceremony will recognize graduates from different areas of study.<\/p>\n<p>All ceremonies will also be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. The full ceremony schedule and livestream access are available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/enrolmentservices\/convocation\/\">Niagara College Convocation website.<\/a> The website also serves as a central hub for important information related to schedules, graduation requirements, guest details, and ceremony updates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support our graduates<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>NC employees are welcome and encouraged to attend Spring Convocation ceremonies, when possible, to support this year&#8217;s graduates. Reserved seating will be available for employees; please ask Enrolment Services staff for directions to the employee seating area upon arrival.<\/p>\n<p>Employees are also encouraged to share congratulatory messages on social media using the hashtag #NCGrad2026 and tagging @niagaracollege in their posts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welland Campus parking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please note that parking lots A and C at the Welland Campus will be reserved for graduates and their guests only during convocation week on Monday, June 8 (starting at 8 a.m.) to the end of day on Saturday, June 13. These lots are unavailable to employees and students during this time.<\/p>\n<p>All other lots are open and available during convocation week. Alternate entry points can be accessed via Woodlawn Road and Rice Road. The office at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake will be closed during this time.\u00a0The Welland Campus office (Secord 106) will remain open but will operate with limited service. Email Enrolment Services at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:registrar@niagaracollege.ca\">registrar@niagaracollege.ca<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Welland Campus Library and Learning Centre <\/strong>will remain open for regular hours during Convocation week with some minor service hour modifications. Please check the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nclibraries.niagaracollege.ca\/library\">Library and Learning Centres website<\/a>\u00a0for more details. Please note, the Learning Centre will have limited seating starting June 3 as NC prepares for Spring Convocation. There may also be potential noise and disruption in the Learning Commons and Library; quiet study areas will be limited.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Core and The Shack\u00a0(Welland Campus)<\/strong>: The Core will be closed from June 4 -13. The Shack will be closed during the week of Spring Convocation from June 8 &#8211; 13.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ancillary Services\/ Chartwells<\/strong>\u00a0will remain open with regular hours at the Welland Campus. said Katie Bristow, NC&#8217;s Sustainability Program &amp; Outreach Coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>Bristow says that DSBN students in Grade 11 and a small group of GM employees had the chance to wade in the campus wetlands, use water monitoring equipment, identify benthic macroinvertebrates, and tour the whole wetland system with current NC students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/environment\/program\/ecosystem-restoration\/\">Ecosystem Restoration program<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/environment\/program\/environmental-technician\/\">Environmental Technician<\/a> program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;GM Canada is very appreciative of the longstanding partnership with Niagara College, which directly supports GM&#8217;s sustainability goals,&#8221; class=\"wp-caption-text\">The NC community gathers to raise the Progress Pride Flag at the Welland campus.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Pride flag serves as a powerful symbol of inclusion, visibility, and recognition, honouring and uplifting 2SLGBTQIA+ communities across NC and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>At the Welland Campus, Dr. Chris McGrath, Vice President, Students, opened the event with a land acknowledgment and welcomed attendees to the ceremony. He spoke about the significance of Pride Month and the importance of creating spaces where everyone feels seen, respected, and valued.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today we not only celebrate the start of Pride month, but we also acknowledge June as Indigenous History Month,&#8221; said Dr. McGrath. &#8220;As I drove to campus this morning, I was reflecting on our relationship to the land, and it&#8217;s not lost on me that the movements for queer and Indigenous rights are so deeply connected. Since immemorial, Indigenous cultures around the world have celebrated and lifted up people in their communities who see the world through multiple perspectives &#8212; those who experience the world beyond the male\/female binary, and they contribute the best of both worlds to their community&#8217;s flourishing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dr. McGrath also shared his personal experiences with those gathered.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Growing up gay, I always knew there was something different about how I saw the world, and in turn, how I experienced it. I could never quite describe it or quantify it, but it always seemed that others around me knew what that something different was,&#8221; he shared. &#8220;That &#8216;something different&#8217; informs how I see the world to this day&#8211;in my interactions with other queer people, radicalized people, people with disabilities, women, and folks from other marginalized groups, and helps me to better connect, collaborate, and understand. Happy Pride, everyone!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additional remarks were shared by NCSAC Director of Media Peter Almounauar and Pride Niagara Board member Enzo De Divitis, who both emphasized the importance of allyship, community support, and continued advocacy for equal rights for all.<\/p>\n<p>At the Daniel J. their legacy of goodwill: Donors Carol Hudson and Tim Glutek proud to support Niagara College students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For Carol Hudson and Tim Glutek, giving back isn&#8217;t just something they do, it&#8217;s the foundation of the life they share together.<\/p>\n<p>Married for nearly 30 years, the couple is building a legacy based on kindness, goodwill and a genuine desire to help others, including Niagara College students.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, they made a $5,000 donation to establish the Carol Hudson and Tim Glutek Award of Excellence, funding two $2,500 scholarships to help cover the cost of tuition for full-time female students enrolled in a program within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/nursing\/\">Myhal School of Nursing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They recently increased their annual donation to $10,000 to provide a total of four scholarships starting this fall. Their goal: to empower women to pursue their dreams of making the world a better place.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting female students specifically is important to the couple, especially to Hudson who mentored many young women throughout her career in banking. She was one of the first women to work on the RBC trading floor in downtown Toronto in the 1980&#8217;s, an opportunity that she advocated for and one that made her a role model to her female colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Establishing a scholarship at NC is also inspired by the support Glutek received as a struggling student.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I still remember the scholarships and bursaries that I received over the years,&#8221; he said, thinking back on his time in university. &#8220;It relieved some of the stress&#8230; every little bit helps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Glutek is grateful for the support that sustained him throughout his educational journey. He also made ends meet by picking up bottles and cans on campus to earn money, knowing that each collection could materialize into a loaf of bread or a jar of peanut butter, and did yard work on a property with pear trees, exchanging his time for fallen fruit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You did what you needed to do,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Glutek went on to work for the Securities Commission and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation and has spent much of his life giving back to others.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s been an avid blood donor for more than 40 years, donating over 250 times. His rare blood type has played a vital role in supporting pregnant women in need of transfusions during childbirth. He was also one of the first people to join the national bone marrow registry and has been called upon twice to donate, something Glutek and Hudson are very proud of.<\/p>\n<p>After living in Toronto, the couple retired to Niagara Falls to enjoy a slower pace of life. They travel, stay active and keep a full social calendar. Hudson has become a &#8220;social secretary&#8221; among a group of women, some well into their 90&#8217;s, who appreciate coffee time after their fitness classes and occasional lunch gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>NC is also part of their routine &#8211; they get their hair cut at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncteachinghairsalon.ca\/\">Teaching Hair Salon<\/a>, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncteachingspa.ca\/\">Teaching Spa<\/a> for treatments and have enjoyed lunch at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/culinaryarts\/benchmark\/\">Benchmark Restaurant<\/a>. Someone saw the potential. Someone is seeing women. Someone is seeing our silent struggles,&#8221; said Ogunlana.<\/p>\n<p>Originally from Nigeria, Ogunlana came to Canada in 2023, eventually settling in Niagara to attend NC. The tuition scholarship provided a welcome financial boost during a low point in her life, allowing her to focus more time on her two young children and her mental health as she juggles school and family responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a while, but I still remember what it was like,&#8221; Glutek shared with Ogunlana. &#8220;The fact that we&#8217;re now in a position where we can help students like you, that means the world to us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A Welland resident, Ogunlana already holds postsecondary credentials in mental health, adult education and communications. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.<\/p>\n<p>The new NC Craft brand unifies the College&#8217;s wines, beers, spirits, and ciders under a refreshed identity designed to better reflect Niagara College&#8217;s innovative, student-focused approach to craft beverage education.<\/p>\n<p>In the segment, President Sean Kennedy discussed the extensive work behind the rebrand.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We took over a year to do focus group testing, concept development, thinking about a brand that would reflect the trailblazing, student-focused characteristics that we&#8217;re so proud of. I think we&#8217;ve hit a home run, and I know that the initial feedback has just been overwhelmingly positive. The concept of NC Craft really speaks to consumers. It speaks to visitors, and we are so thrilled by where we landed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dorota Piasecki, Vice-President, Enrolment Management and Student Services, was also interviewed, highlighting how the new brand will help increase awareness of Niagara College&#8217;s craft beverage programs and student learning opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This allows us to really expand the awareness of what&#8217;s happening here at Niagara College. named among the recipients of the 2026 Niagara 40 Under Forty Business Achievement Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Launched in 2004, the awards celebrate Niagara&#8217;s brightest professionals under the age of 40 who are making a difference in their fields and communities while leaving a lasting mark on the region&#8217;s economic, cultural, and social development.<\/p>\n<p>The College&#8217;s recipients include Orel Ruiz, Director, Partnerships, Partnerships &amp; Enterprises Division; Scott Golem, Associate Director, Horticultural and Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre (HESIC); Ashley Paling, HESIC Research Lead; and Andrea Fujarczuk, Professor and Program Coordinator, Artisan Distilling. They were recognized at the awards ceremony held May 28 at the Holiday Inn &amp; Suites in St. Catharines.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Orel Ruiz &#8211; Director, Partnerships, Partnerships &amp; Enterprises Division<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A graduate of NC&#8217;s Business Administration &#8211; International Business program (2011), Ruiz began his journey as a student ambassador and\u00a0contributed to\u00a0several student-facing roles within the NC community.<\/p>\n<p>From 2014 to 2020, he held\u00a0leadership\u00a0roles of increasing responsibilities\u00a0within\u00a0NC&#8217;s operations in the\u00a0Kingdom of Saudi Arabia\u00a0where he contributed to the development of the College&#8217;s first overseas campus. Since\u00a0returning to Canada, he\u00a0has continued to make impactful contributions to the NC community.\u00a0Currently,\u00a0Ruiz\u00a0serves as a Governor on\u00a0Niagara College&#8217;s\u00a0Board of Governors\u00a0(2025-2028),\u00a0following\u00a0a\u00a0previous\u00a0term from\u00a02023-2025.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This recognition is deeply meaningful to me. I arrived in Niagara\u00a0as a newcomer\u00a0and began my journey as a student at Niagara College,&#8221; said Ruiz. &#8220;Since then, I have had the opportunity to grow into leadership roles, work across more than 15 countries, and contribute to initiatives that expand access to education and create opportunities for others. I am grateful to the mentors, colleagues, and teams I have worked with along the way &#8212; this recognition is very much shared.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Scott Golem &#8211; Associate Director, Horticultural and Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>An alumnus of NC&#8217;s Commercial Cannabis Production program (2019), Golem has been working at NC for more than three years. He began teaching in the Commercial Cannabis Production program before transitioning into Research and Innovation, where he now serves as Associate Director with HESIC.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Receiving this award is incredibly meaningful because Niagara has shaped so much of my personal and professional journey, from my time as a student to my career in research and education,&#8221; said Golem. &#8220;It&#8217;s an honour to be recognized alongside so many inspiring leaders, and I&#8217;m proud to represent the incredible work happening at Niagara College and within Niagara&#8217;s agricultural sector.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The recognition inspires him to continue strengthening connections between education, research, and industry to help solve real-world challenges in agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;At Niagara College, we have an incredible opportunity to develop future talent while driving innovation, and I&#8217;m excited to continue helping position Niagara as a leader in horticultural research and agricultural innovation,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ashley Paling &#8211; Research Lead, Horticultural and Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Paling, a graduate of NC&#8217;s Horticultural Technician (Co-op) program (2023), first began working at NC in 2021 as a part-time Research Assistant with HESIC while she was still a student. Since graduating, she has held several roles at the College, including teaching as a part-time professor in NC&#8217;s Horticulture, Greenhouse, and Landscape programs since 2024. She has served in her current role as Research Lead with HESIC since February 2025.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This award is a reminder that hard work and persistence pay off,&#8221; said Paling. &#8220;It&#8217;s reassuring to see the work our team has been doing at HESIC recognized, and it reinforces that we&#8217;re making meaningful progress in supporting innovation and applied research in the horticulture industry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Receiving the award motivates Paling to continue advancing applied research initiatives that support industry partners and innovation in the horticulture sector.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Being able to work on horticultural research trials that provide practical, real-world data and feedback is incredibly rewarding, and this recognition is a nice reminder that the work we&#8217;re doing is making an impact,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Andrea Fujarczuk &#8211; Professor and Program Coordinator, Artisan Distilling<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Fujarczuk has been with NC for nearly seven years after first studying in the College&#8217;s Wine and Viticulture Technician program (2012). As Professor and Program Coordinator for the College&#8217;s Artisan Distilling program, she has focused on bridging the gap between academic research and the evolving needs of the spirits industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This award is a wonderful moment of reflection,&#8221; said Fujarczuk. &#8220;Balancing doctoral research, teaching, and family life requires a lot of organization and commitment, so being recognized by my own community in Niagara is incredibly touching.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To Fujarczuk, the award also validates the importance of a &#8220;pracademic&#8221; approach that combines academic research with industry application.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It signals that the work we are doing at the College isn&#8217;t just academic; it has a real-world impact on the economic and cultural identity of our region,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s an honour to represent the distilling industry alongside such a diverse group of talented local leaders.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 40 Under Forty recognition, Fujarczuk was recently named one of six recipients of the 2026 Les Dames d&#8217;Escoffier International Legacy Awards, presented by Les Dames d&#8217;Escoffier International and The Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and Culinary Arts.
