Niagara College will join postsecondary institutions across Canada in recognizing Consent Awareness Week, September 15 to 19.<\/p>\n

The annual national campaign is dedicated to promoting understanding of consent, healthy relationships, and sexual violence prevention. It raises awareness about the importance of clear, voluntary, and ongoing consent in all interactions, while encouraging open conversations, education, and community action to build safer and more respectful environments.<\/p>\n

NC’s\u00a0Student Rights and Responsibilities Office<\/a> encourages students and employees participate in Consent Awareness Week through a series of activities and events aimed at dialogue, education, and action.<\/p>\n

Upcoming events and opportunities<\/strong><\/h2>\n

September 15<\/strong>
\nComplete the Preventing Sexual Violence Learning Modules + Survey<\/em><\/a>
\nStudents who complete the modules and a short survey will have a chance to win a $100 Amazon Gift Card.<\/p>\n

September 18 at 2:30pm (Virtual)
\n<\/strong>It’s Giving Red Flags with Cheyenne Tyler Jacobs<\/a>
\n<\/em>In this keynote, Cheyenne will speak with us about red flags and how to create boundaries that will allow us to strengthen our relationships. We’ll gain insight on what is needed to feel good within relationships and how to have difficult conversations when boundaries are broken. As a result of attending this program, you’ll learn how to implement boundaries, feel empowered to hold others accountable when you do not feel respected, and gain confidence to cultivate safe & uplifting communities.<\/p>\n

September 18 at 6:30 p.m. (Downtown St. Catharines)<\/strong>
\nTake Back the Night<\/em><\/a>\u00a0with the\u00a0<\/em>Niagara Sexual Assault Centre<\/em><\/a>
\nHeld at Market Square in St. Catharines, this annual event raises awareness about sexual and gender-based violence through live music and a candlelight march.<\/p>\n

September 19 at 2:30 p.m. (Welland Campus)<\/strong>
\nDare to Disrupt Bro Culture<\/em><\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/em>White Ribbon<\/em><\/a>
\nThis workshop examines the root causes of gender-based violence, including gender norms and expectations. Male-identified participants will be encouraged to reflect on systems of violence, such as rape culture and ‘bro culture,’ and to explore ways to promote gender equality and healthy masculinities.<\/p>\n

Niagara College’s Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Coordinator<\/strong> (SVPRC) provides support to students impacted by sexual and gender-based violence, including reviewing reporting options, exploring accommodations, and developing safety plans.
