{"id":1385395,"date":"2025-05-14T14:09:18","date_gmt":"2025-05-14T18:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/insidenc\/?p=1385395"},"modified":"2025-05-14T14:09:18","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T18:09:18","slug":"message-from-sr-vice-president-pam-skinner-update-on-team-nc-pams-posse-and-the-walk-to-end-als","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/insidenc\/2025\/05\/14\/message-from-sr-vice-president-pam-skinner-update-on-team-nc-pams-posse-and-the-walk-to-end-als\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from Sr. Vice President Pam Skinner: Update on Team NC: Pam&#8217;s Posse and the Walk to end ALS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A message from Sr. Vice President Pam Skinner:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Spring has certainly now sprung, with fresh leaves and beautiful and colourful flowers popping up everywhere.\u00a0 That said, we are fast approaching June, which is ALS Awareness Month &#8211; and I&#8217;m happy to share with you an update on <strong>Pam&#8217;s Posse and the Walk to End ALS!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Things\u00a0are well underway, as you can see if you visit the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca\/ontario2025\/team-nc-pams-posse\">Team NC: Pam&#8217;s Posse\u00a0team page<\/a>.<\/strong> With donations from my NC colleagues, friends and family, we have so far raised <strong>over $6,000<\/strong>\u00a0in support of the <strong>ALS Society!\u00a0<\/strong>I can attest to how critical the ALS Society&#8217;s support is to people like me and my family who are living with ALS. The society provides material support such as mobility aids, personal support, and most critically, research to find a cure. Thanks to the generous donations raised through the Walk and other endeavours, there has been more progress in the last five years than in the last century, something that inspires me to do my part as I think of what it will mean to those in the future who face this now-fatal diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Donations will continue to be collected through to the <strong>end of June<\/strong>.\u00a0Donate by clicking the\u00a0<em>&#8220;donate&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0button on\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca\/ontario2025\/team-nc-pams-posse\"><strong>Team NC: Pam&#8217;s Posse\u00a0<\/strong>team page<\/a>.\u00a0Please feel free to\u00a0<strong>share this page far and wide<\/strong>, we encourage anyone and everyone to join\u00a0Pam&#8217;s Posse &#8211; as donors and as walkers &#8211; as we take another step to end ALS.<\/p>\n<p><u>Please RSVP for the Walk, and the BBQ<\/u><\/p>\n<p>There is still time to get in on the action with <strong>Pam&#8217;s Posse. <\/strong>The Walk is being held on\u00a0<strong>June 7<sup>th<\/sup> <\/strong>&#8211; a lovely walk along the Canal starting at the St Catharines Museum &amp; Welland Canals Centre, 1932 Welland Canals Parkway, St. Catharines. And like last year, there will be a post-Walk BBQ at <strong>The Armoury<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Niagara College&#8217;s Student Pub<\/strong>, generously provided by a special donor.\u00a0 Please RSVP to my daughter and co-organizer Rachel at <a href=\"mailto:rjrskinner@gmail.com\">rjrskinner@gmail.com<\/a> if you are interested in attending the walk and BBQ so we can make sure there is enough for everyone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Please RSVP as soon as possible and no later than June 1<sup>st<\/sup> to let us know if you and other supporters (family, friends) are attending the Walk and the BBQ so that we can have sufficient goodies for all!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>What to expect at the Walk<\/u><\/p>\n<p>When you arrive at the site there will be a table for registration, the ALS Society will have a limited supply of T-shirts for the walkers, and there will be some entertainment as people gather before a few speeches and then the walk starts at 10:30 a.m. sharp. The walk is a 5-kilometer round trip. For those with limited mobility, doing only part of the walk is not uncommon.<\/p>\n<p>Those who <em>registered <\/em>on the website will receive more information about the Niagara walk from the ALS Society. You can also check for updates on the website <a href=\"https:\/\/alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca\/ontario\/niagara-region\">alscanadawalktoendals.als.ca\/ontario\/niagara-region<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a <strong>cowboy hat<\/strong> &#8211; wear it to the Walk to fit our Posse theme!
