from the Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program, Project Brew will be held on Friday, April 17 (4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.) at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The end-of-term ticketed event will be held outdoors in the Norris Walker Family Community Courtyard, weather permitting.<\/p>\n<p>Guests will have a chance to taste 12 small batch beers – including individual and collaborative student brews – and vote for their favourite to help select this term’s People’s Choice Award winner.<\/p>\n<p>The Matt Soos Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student whose beer is selected by judges, in memory of Matt Soos, a 2015 program graduate who passed away shortly after beginning his career in the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Food will also be available for purchase. The menu was designed by Chef Justin Downes, in collaboration with the Brewmaster students, and will be prepared by NC culinary students from Benchmark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tickets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tickets are $35 plus tax. The ticket price includes five beer tokens and a beer glass. Additional tokens are available for purchase ($3 per token). Patterson Campus (Niagara-on-the-Lake) that support experiential learning across various disciplines. Joining Fisher on the tour were Gord Arbeau, Vice-President, Advancement; Evan DiValentino, Dean, Business & Environment; Jana Boniferro, Director, Alumni Relations; and Kerry Kennedy, graduate of the Ecosystem Restoration program and spouse of NC President Sean Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exploring sustainability and experiential learning on campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The tour began in NC’s Sustainability Office, where Fisher observed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/environment\/program\/environmental-management\/\">Environmental Management and Assessment program<\/a> student interns working on projects ranging from waste management to phragmite control. Sustainability Manager Taryn Wilkinson provided insight into some of the College’s sustainability efforts, including recent initiatives to address water quality issues in a local tributary.<\/p>\n<p>From the Sustainability Office, the group moved to the College’s Culinary Wing, where they observed students at work in the culinary labs and viewed creations from the Baking and Pastry Arts program. Examples were shared of student-led initiatives and applied learning projects, including the on campus United Way Community Garden, where students play an active role in managing and supporting food production, as well as students who have launched their own ventures in the agriculture and horticulture sector.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bridging research and practice<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Throughout the tour, Fisher shared highlights from his professional work in environmental advocacy, water stewardship, and sustainable agriculture. Patterson Campus.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>Reflections on returning to campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For Fisher, seeing the College’s new facilities, innovative program areas, and students engaged in hands-on learning highlighted its ongoing commitment to experiential education, skill development, and career readiness.<\/p>\n<p>“Coming back to campus is a reminder of just how critical practical and applied learning is today, even more so than when I was here,” he said. “Colleges like NC create that space for learning and collaboration, where students practice tackling real-world challenges and make meaningful change.”<\/p>\n<p>Fisher reflected on how his experiences since graduating from NC have shaped his career and current role.<\/p>\n<p>“Time really does fly,” said Fisher. “Even though you have a sense of where your career is heading, I never imagined I’d have the chance to do all these interesting things along the way or end up here. It’s gratifying to see how my experiences, educationally, professionally, and in government or outside of it, have culminated in this one moment. learners at the annual Indigenous Student Awards Banquet, held on March 26.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its third year, the event brought together students, families, staff and community partners at Club Roma for an evening dedicated to honouring Indigenous student success. Travelling from Williams Lake, B.C., she met with award recipients and shared her story, speaking about the lasting impacts of residential schools and the importance of Orange Shirt Day, Every Child Matters and ongoing Truth and Reconciliation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>In total, 18 students in attendance received awards, including four recipients of the <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.niagaracollege.ca\/help-students\/dr-phyllis-webstad-indigenous-scholarship\/\">Dr. Phyllis Webstad Indigenous Scholarship<\/a>. Each recipient of this award received $1,000 during the 2025-2026 academic year to help ease the financial burden of postsecondary education.<\/p>\n<p>The College’s Advancement team continues to <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.niagaracollege.ca\/help-students\/dr-phyllis-webstad-indigenous-scholarship\/\">welcome donations for this scholarship fund<\/a>, with a long-term goal of expanding support to every Indigenous student who attends the College.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration also welcomed members of NC’s Indigenous Education Management Circle (IEMC), along with community partners and supporters. future of Niagara College.<\/p>\n<p>I’m pleased to share our <a href=\"https:\/\/isu.pub\/1JvfTEB\"><strong>2025 Sustainability Plan Year in Review<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/S8esB0gBA0s\">video<\/a> to mark this milestone.<\/p>\n<p>As you browse the report, you will note that parts of the Sustainability Plan have progressed quickly, while others are taking shape more slowly – but all of it is essential. We will continue moving forward, building positive momentum for our campus community and the environment.<\/p>\n<p>Collective action, one of the Plan’s guiding principles, is integral to our success. That means active participation from everyone on campus to make progress toward our goals and targets.<\/p>\n<p>Every effort, big or small, helps drive change. discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>In honour of the day, students and employees are invited to a <strong>hybrid<\/strong> session from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: <em>Positive<\/em> <em>Space – Creating 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusive and Affirming Environments.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Organized by Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Centre for Academic Excellence, the session offers participants an engaging and reflective introduction to gender and sexual diversity, drawing on key concepts such as terminology, pronouns, gender identity, and the impact of heteronormative and cisnormative assumptions.<\/p>\n<p>The session encourages deeper understanding of lived experiences within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
