Pictured from left: Marye Anne Chisholm, Fanor Ruiz, Thomas Morenzoni, Kyla Dewey, Mark Baggetta, Wiliam Panyadeth, Santiago Ampudia Vasquez, Gian Raina Armas, Nicholas Smith and Jenny Lukasiewicz.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There was an outpouring of excitement at the NC Teaching Brewery on August 10 with a visit from representatives from the U.S. Open College Beer Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The fact that NC clinched the Grand National Champion title along with five medals at the 2023 U.S. Open College Beer Championship drew competition directors Tom Streeter and Carla Gesell-Streeter to visit Niagara College&#8217;s Teaching Brewery and hand out awards to the class of 10 final term <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niagaracollege.ca\/winebeerspirits\/program\/brewmaster-brewery-operations\/\">Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management<\/a> students in person.<\/p>\n<p>Every beer that the College&#8217;s Teaching Brewery entered in this year&#8217;s competition achieved a medal\u00a0 including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gold for <strong>Echoes in the Taproom,<\/strong> a Belgian Dubbel beer made by the entire class of 10 final-term students. Each school was invited to submit a beer from this year&#8217;s specified specific category &#8211; which was Belgian Dubbel for 2023 &#8211; to be judged head-to-head according to the U.S. Open style standards;<\/li>\n<li>Gold for<strong> Hulk Roggan<\/strong>, which also tied for Best of Show; a historical beer created by final term Brewmaster student Gian Raina Armas; (Cuba\/ Niagara Falls);<\/li>\n<li>Silver for <strong>Taylor Rd. Saison,<\/strong> made by final term Brewmaster student Marye Anne Chisholm (Stevensville, Ontario);<\/li>\n<li>silver for <strong>Te-Toiset Bois<\/strong> Belgian Tripel, by final term Brewmaster student Santiago Hernan Ampudia Vasquez (Ecuador\/ Thorold); and<\/li>\n<li><strong>bronze for T&#8217;Weiss as Nice&#8217; German Wheat Ale<\/strong>, by final term Brewmaster student Jenny Lukasiewicz (Port Edward, Ontario) .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The same class of students behind these award-winning brews at the U.S. Open College Championship are hosting <strong>Project Brew Augtoberfest <\/strong>on August 11. The Bavarian themed student-organized beer festival will offer guests of the ticketed event a taste of 13 student-crafted brews. The event will be held on August 11 (5-9 p.m.) at NC&#8217;s Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.<\/p>\n<p>The gold-medal-winning class beer, Echoes in the Taproom, will be one of the featured brews at Project Brew Augtoberfest.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That beer was pro level,&#8221; said Streeter. &#8220;The thing is, the competition this year was really one of the stronger ones we ever had.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We had judges that were really high level&#8230; and they were really impressed,&#8221; said Gesell-Streeter.<\/p>\n<p>With dry weather in the forecast, <em>additional tickets are now available<\/em> for the previously sold-out event.
