Continuing to Bring the World to Niagara, Niagara College will offer teaching training to 49 educators from Brazil from May 25 to July 21.
Facilitated by a partnership between Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and Brazil’s Ministry of Education through an organization called Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel, CAPES, NC will partner with Fanshawe College to conduct teacher training for almost 100 educators of kindergarten to grade 12. Approximately 49 educators will have their training at NC’s Welland Campus, and the other half, approximately 47 educators, will attend training at Fanshawe.
The Brazilian Basic Education Teachers program highlights best practices of the Canadian education system and teacher methodology. NC and Fanshawe have collaborated to develop a customized curriculum for the educators. The training will include two weeks of English as a Second Language skill development, two weeks of experiential learning endeavors and four weeks of customized professional development focusing on student-centered approaches, the inclusive classroom, classroom management and technology.

To be accepted into this unique program, teachers also had to develop a proposal for a pedagogical intervention project – to be completed while in Canada – based on their own professional experience to improve their teaching practice. The assignment seeks to incorporate best practices learned during the Brazilian Basic Education Teachers program.
