NC’s Global Learning Lounge Cultural Awareness – Nigeria, Mexico, and Colombia on March 6

A message from NC International’s Global Engagement division:

Niagara College Employees are invited to attend NC International’s Global Learning Lounge on Mar. 6 at 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. via zoom.

Joining the next Global Learning Lounge, you can expect to gain a deeper understanding of the profiles, journeys and challenges faced by international students from Nigeria, Colombia, and Mexico. This panel discussion will be led by Global Business Development Managers who will be sharing their knowledge and experiences working with students from these countries.

Specifically, information will be shared about the characteristics of international students from these countries, including their educational backgrounds, cultural norms, and expectations for their academic experience. We will also review the various factors that influence these students’ decision to study in Canada, such as academic opportunities and career prospects. Additionally, we will inform about the common challenges that international students from India, Nigeria and Philippines face when adjusting to life in a new country, such as language barriers, cultural differences, and homesickness.

The presentation will also explore strategies and resources to support international students from these countries, both inside and outside the classroom. Overall, expect to gain a better understanding of the experiences and needs of international students from Nigeria, Colombia, and Mexico, and expanded cultural competencies which may convert into practical strategies for supporting students in their academic and personal development.
