I am writing to share some exciting news about our College’s role in one of the most significant events to come to our community in recent years.
Since Niagara’s bid for the Canada Summer Games in 2017, Niagara College staff, faculty and students have been deeply embedded in Games preparation, lending their expertise to support this transformational event that will inspire the next generation of Knights athletes, and leave a great legacy in the Niagara Region. The Niagara 2022 Canada Summer Games are a once in a lifetime opportunity to engage NC students in experiential learning, innovation, and showcase our college as an athletic destination with great programs and rich student life. I am truly grateful for all your efforts.
Today, it brings me great pleasure to share that Niagara College has become the official Experiential and Digital Production Partner for the Canada Summer Games (CSG).
NC will be responsible for the management and oversight of the full digital production of the 28th edition of the CSG. Supporting this tremendous undertaking on behalf of the College is Peter ‘Dutch’ VandenBerg, program coordinator of the Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film production program. A proud member of Team NC, Dutch has helped to deliver many extraordinary production programs, including major sporting events in the Niagara Region. Dutch will lead the team responsible for live broadcasting the Games’ competitions and events to Canadians coast-to-coast. Please join me in congratulating Dutch on this exciting secondment opportunity!
Many other NC faculty, staff and administrators have been supporting the Games in various capacities and I would like to recognize their ongoing work.
In addition to our digital production role with Niagara 2022, NC will be a VIP Hosting Hospitality Partner and provide support to the Games’ sustainability and accessibility programming by collaborating on exciting initiatives such as the March 2022 Sustainability Summit, community clean-ups, accessibility audits, and the N22 Green Team — a group of volunteers responsible for undertaking sustainability programs during the Games. NC will also proudly host some of the basketball and volleyball competitions at our Welland Campus.
I am also pleased to have joined the Niagara 2022 Host Society’s Board of Directors alongside Michele O’Keefe, Athletic Director, and other local leaders who share our passion for sport excellence and community building.
As we enter the final stretch in the lead-up to the Niagara 2022 CSG, I wish to thank all faculty and staff who have and continue to leverage the Games to provide new experiential learning opportunities for students.
As the Niagara Region prepares to welcome more than 5,000 up-and-coming athletes, their coaches and support staff for Canada’s largest multi-sport event, August 6 to 21, 2022, I hope you will take advantage of this historic opportunity to engage with the Games locally, as a spectator or a volunteer.
