On September 12, the largest group of NC Big Move riders met at Rockway Community Centre in St. Catharines to ride #NCTogether in support of Niagara Health’s Walker Family Cancer Centre. After building their stamina by participating in a series of weekly summer training rides, NC’s Big Move Cancer Ride team is ready to ‘cycle the distance’ in support of the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

With the event being virtual again this year – with participants invited to ride on their own time and at their own pace during the month of September – NC’s team leads have organized a series of group rides to encourage the college’s cyclists to ride #NCTogether.

The remaining group rides are taking place on the following dates:

Sunday, September 19 at 9:30 a.m. – 50km
Tuesday, September 21 at 6 p.m. – 25km
Sunday, September 26 at 9 a.m. – 75km+ *Note time change to 9 a.m. Cyclists who attend this group ride can decide whether to cycle 75km or attempt a 100km ride, led by team captain Joanne Maltby!

All rides will depart from Rockway Community Centre (2021 Pelham Rd in St. Catharines) and follow the public health guidelines for cycling. Participants can join one or multiple rides.

Important ride-day reminders:

  • Please arrive early so that you are ready to depart at the indicated time;
  • Please ensure your bike is road-ready (safe) and bring your helmet, water bottle and snacks if needed;
  • Most importantly, wear your NC cycling jersey, NC shirt or blue and white – a must for photos!

For those who cannot attend one of the scheduled group rides, route options of various distances have been mapped out throughout the region by the Big Move Cancer Ride, which is hosted by the Niagara Health Foundation.

You can support the team’s efforts by donating and it’s not too late to register to join the team if you’re interested in riding.

This year, the NC team has set a fundraising goal of $5,000 – over the past two years, the team has raised over $8,500 for the cause.
