Samantha Jemison has been elected as the new Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) president.
Jemison has been an engaged and energetic student during her four years at Niagara College. She has acted as the director of Technology Studies and she has served as the vice president and board chair for NCSAC. She will be graduating from the Mechanical Engineering program this April.
After serving in various roles for NCSAC and volunteering with the college, Jemison is ready to begin her new role of NCSAC president.
“NCSAC has had a tremendous impact on me during my time as a Niagara College student,” said Jemison. “I am very honoured to step into a role where I can further express my love for the college while helping to shape its direction. Most of all, I look forward to maintaining the students’ voice at the forefront of the decisions that impact them.”
The role of NCSAC president is a full-time position held by a recent graduate of the college. The NCSAC president acts as the leader of the Niagara College Student Administrative Council and is responsible for collaborating with the NCSAC Board and NCSAC staff on strategic direction, vision and annual goals of the organization. The president also organizes advocacy efforts and government relations between NCSAC and other student organizations at the municipal, provincial and federal levels of government.
“NCSAC and Niagara College have a long-standing history of having a relationship which is envied by other post-secondary institutions in Ontario and Canada,” said Steve Kosh, executive director of NCSAC. “This positive working relationship has been built on a foundation of communication between the president of Niagara College and the president of NCSAC. The importance of regularly scheduled meetings between the two presidents cannot be understated. This communication offers an open opportunity for both leaders to share ideas and advocate for their respective organizations which strengthens campus policies and direction with the best interests of both students and staff at heart.”
Jamieson succeeds Tom Price, who will complete his second and final term as president at the end of April. Jemison’s term as NCSAC president will begin on May 1, 2021.
“Every year brings new challenges and opportunities to students and this year has been no exception. As we eagerly await our return to campus, I look forward to helping ensure a positive transition for those returning while ensuring that all students have a truly amazing #MyNCStory,” said Jemison.
