Niagara College can begin welcoming international students to Canada now that it has been listed as an official Designated Learning Institution (DLI) with an approved COVID-19 readiness plan.
In October, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated its travel restriction exemptions for international students. Amended travel restrictions, which began on October 20, now permit international students to enter Canada if their DLI has a COVID-19 readiness plan in place, which has been approved by their provincial or territorial government and federal health authorities. The list of DLIs are posted on IRCC’s web page for international students affected by COVID-19 restrictions and is being updated regularly.
Niagara College has a comprehensive COVID-19 readiness and quarantine plan that is focused on student and community safety. Since the College was added to the IRCC’s list of DLIs on November 3, it can resume its active support for international students with their travel to Canada and quarantine plan.
“International students are a vital part of Niagara College and our local community,” said Dorita Pentesco, interim director, International. “We have carefully prepared and are pleased to be able to welcome international students arriving to Canada in a way that manages safety and the well-being of our students.”
All international students travelling to Canada are required to attend a DLI with a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by its province or territory. They must also have a valid study permit or letter of introduction showing they were approved for a study permit, as part of their requirements.
NC’s COVID-19 readiness plan offers full 14-day quarantine support for international students arriving to Canada, including transportation from the airport, all accommodations and meals, daily check-ins and student support.
