Message from President Sean Kennedy: Remembrance Day

Every year at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, Canadians pause in a moment of silence to honour and remember the people who have served, and continue to serve Canada during times of conflict and peace.

While many of us are working or studying differently on this Remembrance Day, I encourage all members of our college community to pause at 11 a.m. and take a moment to reflect on the contributions of the 2.3 million Canadians who have served during our nation’s history, including those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the world.

Because of them, we are able to live and work in peace, even in these trying times.

If you are on campus, In Flanders Fields will be recited over the on-campus intercom at 11 a.m. For those working from home, please remember to pause at this time.

Although this year’s Remembrance Day services have been cancelled in some communities, the City of St. Catharines’ ceremony will be available to watch online at 11 a.m.

Faculty and students from our Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film program have partnered with several organizations to help livestream Remembrance Day events in other Niagara communities. They will livestream the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 613’s small outdoor ceremony in Fonthill, and assist in the online streaming of We’ll Meet Again, an annual concert in Niagara-on-the-Lake that commemorates the First and Second World Wars.  The latter will air at 7 p.m. on the Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum website.

Lest we forget.
